Why did you start Big Gene’s Family Kitchen?

So my children would not be calling me every 5 minutes after they left home asking me how to cook something like i did to my mother.…But really its about showing everyone that you can cook good healthy food easily.


Who is Big Gene?

He was our pet blue crayfish who was constantly escaping from his tank and wandering the house. I liked his attitude of not being caged..or restricted by ‘social norms’…


Food philosophy?

Good quality ingredients are key….and simplicity.

My mum Nori, The genius Simon Hopkinson, Rick Stein, Nigel Slater


Basic must-haves for your pantry

Good quality olive oil

Black pepper

Tinned tomatoes

Garlic


What do you do when you are not in the Family Kitchen?
